Getting to Lake Millstätter See, Bad Kleinkirchheim & the Nockberge mountains

Travel to the region by train, car, plane or long-distance coach. Five railway stations serve the region and its surroundings, with long-distance trains stopping at Spittal-Millstättersee and Villach Hbf. The Bahnhof-Shuttle Kärnten takes guests directly to their accommodation. From 1 November 2026, the guest card also serves as a public transport ticket for buses and trains throughout Carinthia, including journeys from the railway station or airport.

Arrival by train

Numerous direct train connections make travelling to Carinthia easy. Five railway stations serve the region and its surroundings: Spittal-Millstättersee, Villach Hbf, Feldkirchen in Kärnten, Ferndorf and Lendorf. Long-distance trains stop at Spittal-Millstättersee and Villach Hbf.

Direct WESTbahn connection from Vienna to Spittal-Millstättersee

With the new timetable, WESTbahn will operate daily direct services between Vienna Central Station and Spittal-Millstättersee, via Graz, the Koralmbahn, Klagenfurt and Villach. Journey time is approximately 4 hours.

Spittal departs 7:40 am → Vienna Central Station arrives 11:45 am - Vienna Central Station departs 4:15 pm → Spittal arrives 8:20 pm

Koralmbahn: faster connections between Graz & Carinthia

Since December 2025, the Koralmbahn has connected Graz and Klagenfurt in approximately 40 minutes.

The region is now more accessible than ever: travel from Graz to Spittal-Millstättersee in just 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Last-mile connections: Train-Station-Shuttle Carinthia

Travel comfortably by train or long-distance bus and get a low-cost shuttle from the train station to your booked accommodation: This service is provided by Bahnhof-Shuttle Kärnten. The transfer can be booked until 8 pm the day before. Tip: With the Millstätter See Inclusive Card (MIC), the Carinthia train station shuttle can be used for € 3.00 per person/ride.

The region is well connected to the international motorway network. Motorway exits in and around the region include A10 Spittal/Millstätter See junction, Spittal Ost and Villach Ossiacher See.

Arrival by plane

Klagenfurt Airport is approximately 65 kilometres from the region. From 1 November 2026, your guest card is already valid as a public transport ticket for the journey from the airport to the region.

Travelling by long-distance coach

FlixBus connects the stop at Villach, Bahnhofsplatz 5, with destinations in Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

From Villach, continue to the region on bus route 350 or with the Train-Station-Shuttle Carinthia.

Frequently asked questions about travelling to the region

For Lake Millstätter See, Spittal-Millstättersee is the main railway station, with long-distance train connections and onward travel on bus routes 180/184.

For Feld am See, Radenthein and Bad Kleinkirchheim, Villach Hbf is also a convenient option, with onward connections on bus route 350.

To reach the Nockberge mountains around Ebene Reichenau, take bus route 420 from Feldkirchen in Kärnten.

How do I get from the railway station to my accommodation?

The Bahnhof-Shuttle Kärnten takes you directly to your accommodation. Bookings must be made by 8 pm the day before travel.

Alternatively, take a bus from Spittal-Millstättersee, Villach Hbf or Feldkirchen. From 1 November 2026, these journeys are already free of charge with your guest card. Nockmobil is another option for covering the final kilometres.
