Preparation is key when venturing off-piste: avalanche awareness, terrain assessment and confident use of avalanche transceivers are essential. The Falkert Ski Touring Competence Centre offers the best set-up: instructive, clearly marked, favourable avalanche conditions - also suitable for the first ski tour with children. Standard safety equipment remains mandatory.
The 1st Carinthian ski touring trail on the Falkert provides a structured, safe introduction to ski touring in Carinthia. The marked route, which can be used free of charge, leads in six sections away from the secured pistes through the Sonntagstal valley to the Falkertscharte and on to the Falkertspitz. A permanent PIEPS search field allows for realistic avalanche transceiver exercises. Guided variants are offered by certified ski instructors from the Falkert ski school and freeride pro and state-certified ski guide Florian Köfer; touring skis and skins can be hired on site. Prerequisite: solid skiing technique and basic fitness.

Gentle ridges, open slopes and sparse forests - the Nockberge-Trail is a multi-day ski tour in Carinthia that takes you through the UNESCO Carinthian Nockberge Biosphere Reserve for four days. Start at Katschberg, continue via Innerkrems, Turracher Höhe and Falkert to Bad Kleinkirchheim; comfort points along the route allow for relaxed breaks - thermal baths included. As Austria's first year-round trail that can be booked online, the route is also accessible as a long-distance hiking trail in summer and alternatively with snowshoes in winter.
Sportberg Goldeck: Ski tourers can use the S1 daily from 7.15 am for the ascent. The route is exclusively available until 10.30 a.m. before regular ski operations begin. A ski touring ticket is required for use, which is available for 13 euros in the webshop. The piste touring ticket (without Goldeckbahn) is already included in the Winter Kärnten Card - simply scan the card at the gateway and off you go!
Turracher Höhe: On the Turracher Höhe, the Kornock downhill run no. 1 becomes a ski touring piste on Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:30.
On full moon nights, ski tours in Bad Kleinkirchheim lead uphill on the Brunnach descent (piste no. 27). The route can be used from 16:30 to 22:00. Use is free of charge during this TIME!
