Bivouac at Lake Millstatt

A bivouac on Lake Millstätter See offers an extraordinary overnight stay in Carinthia: five unique retreats nestled between the lake and the mountains – for a night under the stars.

Why a night spent camping in Carinthia is special

Who doesn’t look for a place to retreat to every now and then? A place for couples? Where you can dream together under the starry sky
The “Bivouac under the stars. Rifugio sotto le stelle.” at Lake Millstatt in Carinthia offer just such romantic accommodation for precious time together, allowing you to experience the closeness to nature even more intensely.

Those little moments of happiness …

It is a poorly kept secret that quickly reveals itself in some places: true happiness lies in the little things. The little things contain everything within them, yet they remain quiet, as if they do not wish to attract attention. Nor can they be found – that is a common misconception. We have long carried it within us. It is always there, waiting patiently to be recognised. And then there are those places that only reveal their full beauty at second glance

… spend TIME together

The bivouacs on Lake Millstatt are the sort of places where small moments of happiness knock gently on your heart and reach out to the person you love most, who is there with you beneath the starry sky. Then it spreads out like the echoes of a bat at dusk. Those who pay attention to these many small moments of happiness gradually grow into a greater sense of happiness. Two of the most powerful keys are called gratitude and TIME together.

Facilities & Experience at the Bivouac

A night for two in the bivouac under the stars puts things in perspective. Everyday life fades away, the Swiss stone pine elements of the small hideaway in the middle of nature smell wonderful and the furnishings are reduced to the essentials despite all the comfort.

Through the large panoramic windows, you can gaze at the stars in the evening and the sunrise in the morning. Built from local larch, Swiss stone pine and spruce wood, the architecture of the Millstätter See bivouacs is based on the archaic shape of a house. Each individual bivouac offers 15 m² of space for a large bed, a table with chairs and cozy lambskins as well as a separate washroom with toilet and washing facilities. Mobile devices, keys and diaries are stored in a small compartment by the bed. This is how precious TIME for two begins as a matter of course.

When exactly did we forget to look at the starry sky? The night in the bivouac brings back the sky and with it love and sensuality.

Winter bivouacs: Spend the night in the snow

Starry skies over Lake Millstatt & the best TIME to see shooting stars

Look up at the starry sky together through the skylight and, with a bit of luck, watch a shooting star on its journey to earth: That's a special moment of togetherness! There are nights when the star storms above the bivouacs on Lake Millstätter See are particularly wild. This is the case in May, when the May Aquarids pass over the earth. It is also particularly romantic from the end of July to the middle/end of August when the Perseids light up the night sky. Another opportunity arises in November. That's when the Leonids appear in the winter sky! Will the wishes come true? We firmly believe they will!

An overview of the Shooting Star Nights:

Perseids (summer highlight): mid-July to late August
Orionids (autumn): early October to early November
Leonids (late autumn): mid-November
Geminids (winter): mid-December
Lyrids (spring): mid- to late April
May Aquarids: late April to late May

Wer ein Biwak am See sucht, hat die Wahl: Das Biwak Sonnenuntergang I tramonto in Millstatt am See und das Biwak Schilf I canna palustre liegen direkt am Ufer des Millstätter Sees. Auch das Biwak Freiheit I libertá ist nur einen Campingplatz-Spaziergang weit - mit dem See verbunden.

Each bivouac has a separate washroom with a toilet, a marble or ceramic washbasin and a jug of water. The “Biwak Freiheit I libertà” is connected to the mains water supply.

Reduction and retreat. The bivouacs are deliberately equipped without Wi-Fi so that couples can enjoy their time together undisturbed.

The “Sonnenuntergang I tramonto”, “Schilf I canna palustre” and “Freiheit I libertá” bivouacs are equipped with a 230-volt power supply.
