In the hut village on the village square, opposite the St. Kathrein thermal spa, the Advent atmosphere intensifies: on 13 market days, over 30 exhibitors showcase crafts full of character and delights - wood and felt work, fine embroidery, jewellery, hemp and natural products, honey, garlic and other selected foods. Local associations serve tea, mulled wine, mulled cider and punch and serve Carinthian delicacies. On selected Saturdays, the Genussland Kärnten (Carinthia's culinary delights programme) provides fine Advent cuisine with show chef Marco Krainer.

Following the Advent market, a children's area for families opens in the rear spa gardens: a lovingly designed Christmas playground with animal figures and stories, colourful light displays and festively decorated trees. Outside, there are snow hills to slide down and a gnome's hut. Children can draw, paint and do handicrafts - and write a wish list to the Christ Child. St Nicholas also pays a visit to the village square.
Children bake their own biscuits in the Weissensteiner bakery - warm from the oven and as a sweet souvenir to take home (2 appointments/advance booking required). Face painting, glitter tattoos and "Let's twist together" (balloon modelling) make eyes light up. Craft stations with natural materials provide space for imagination and small works of art. This makes the Kirchheim Advent market a hands-on family Advent in Carinthia, even for the youngest visitors.
A glowing Christmas trail leads from the village square through the winter night. A world of stars and soft sounds, small refreshment stops with Alpe-Adria specialities, hot chestnuts, punch and mulled wine await you at around 700 metres.
One of the highlights is the pony farm - groom the ponies, cuddle them gently and take a guided walk together through the wintry scenery.
The "Path of Warmth" runs from the Therme St. Kathrein/Badewandl along the Thermenstraße, past the "Thermenwelt Hotel Pulverer", to the "Das Ronacher Thermal Spa Hotel" and further along an atmospherically illuminated path to the church of St. Kathrein.
The church of St Kathrein was built over a healing spring; the water is collected in the crypt. The path is lined with light installations, a warm-up area and the scent of Swiss stone pine, lavender and spruce needles.
The interplay is what makes it so attractive: the ski season starts on 5 December 2025 almost at the same time as the Kirchheim Advent - first turns in the Bad Kleinkirchheim ski area, warmth in the St. Kathrein thermal spa and the Römerbad thermal spa.
Quieter paths lead into the UNESCO Carinthian Nockberge Biosphere Reserve - ideal routes for snowshoe tours and winter walks.

A staged walk of lights and scents from the St. Kathrein thermal spa to the hotel "Das Ronacher THERMAL SPA HOTEL" with heat spots and from there on to the church of St. Kathrein. Light installations with heat colours, fireplaces and the scents of the Nockberge mountains accompany you along the way.
