Vacation on a farm with lots of animals: This is how many children imagine their vacation. Numerous feathered friends and fluffy furry friends await young guests on the farms in the region.

Big dark eyes and a tousled hairstyle are the hallmarks of alpacas. Artax, Waterloo or Valentino are the names of the four-legged friends from the Andes who accompany guests of all ages from the Stauder mountain farm to the most scenic spots on the Hühnersberg high above Lendorf. That too is a farm vacation in Austria.

The Millstätter Sonnenplateau is home to organic farms between orchards and herb gardens. The view stretches as far as the lake and breakfast comes straight from the farm.

The spectrum ranges from cosy alpine huts far away from civilization, where guests are woken up by the bells of grazing animals, to "troad boxes" that have been converted into vacation homes, to romantic chalets in the Nockberge mountains.

The Kneipp Mirnock Panorama circular trail is 13 kilometers long and leads past many Mirnock farms. Mindfulness stations have been set up along the trail, inviting you to practice yoga asanas with a view of the lake.

Riding through forests, across meadows and around Feldkirchen: Ponies, Haflinger horses and over 70 Icelandic horses await you on many farms. The Köck riding stables are a real highlight for horse fans.

Many farmsteads are centuries old. Some parlors are surrounded by thick creek stone walls. In the Nockberge Mountains, you can also book farm vacations in very typical wooden houses with small windows and long balconies decorated with flowers.

The counterpart to farm vacations with lake access are the farms on the slopes in winter. There are several of them, especially in Bad Kleinkirchheim and on the Falkert. Strap on your skis and hit the slopes!
